Biogen Idec Deploys Agile Reporting Solution Using Denodo to Provide Accurate Daily Sales Reports Across 90 Countries, including Distributors and Wholesalers

Biogen Idec, a global biotechnology company with products sold through multiple wholesalers and distributors in over 90 countries, needed accurate daily sales reports by drug and territory for senior executives. Analysts were manually consolidating disparate internal and external data (Excel, PDF, XML, web feeds, databases), normalizing formats and currencies, and producing error-prone, time-consuming Excel reports that could not scale to support rapid organizational growth, new data sources, or frequent reporting changes.

After a three-month evaluation Biogen deployed Denodo’s Data Virtualization platform to virtualize and integrate semi-structured and structured sources, automate data access and conversion, and provide graphical tools for cleansing, validation, lineage and publishing. The initial solution was live in three weeks, supporting real-time Excel and mobile views plus historical data mart exports; new reports now take under two weeks (60% faster), change requests are handled in days, IT analyst time fell ~40% (about 500 hours/year per project), and the platform enabled access to new partner and public data and expansion into additional reporting use cases.
