Albertsons Leverages the Denodo Platform for Flexible, Intelligent Data Security

Albertsons, one of North America’s largest grocery chains, was undergoing a digital transformation to become a tech-enabled retailer but faced a core challenge: how to migrate customer data to Microsoft Azure and run personalized marketing and advanced analytics without exposing PII/PHI/PCI. The company did not fully trust cloud-native protections and needed a way to restrict access to sensitive elements while enabling analytics and campaign teams to use customer data securely.

Albertsons combined Azure network controls and encryption with Protegrity tokenization to store tokenized customer data in Snowflake, and used an on-premises Denodo Platform to virtualize access and enforce role-based detokenization for authorized users. Analysts worked with tokenized WIP tables, while marketing teams accessed detokenized results through Denodo’s access controls, enabling a secure cloud migration, ongoing advanced analytics, reduced exposure of restricted data, improved customer privacy, and faster time-to-market.
