The Nature Conservancy monitors 24,000-acre Dangermond Reserve with Dendra

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) manages two remote, ecologically significant reserves near Santa Barbara, CA, where monitoring water levels in wells and cattle troughs was a critical but challenging operational task. To address this, TNC partnered with vendor Dendra to experiment with Internet of Things (IoT) technology for environmental and facility monitoring.

The solution implemented by Dendra involved integrating with The Things Network to deploy a LoRaWAN, enabling the use of IoT sensors like TekBox loggers and RanchBot devices to collect real-time data on water levels and weather conditions. This provided TNC with a long-term record of ecosystem and facility health, allowing for improved planning and land management practices across the Dangermond Preserve and Santa Cruz Island.
