A Dematic Case Study

Preview of the Zimmer International Logistics GmbH Case Study

Zero error picking due to intelligent solution concept

Zimmer International Logistics GmbH, a subsidiary of the global orthopedics leader Zimmer Holding, required a highly automated and reliable logistics solution for its new European distribution center. The challenge was to create a system with zero-defect picking and on-time order compilation to supply operation centers across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. The company engaged Dematic as the general contractor to implement this solution.

Dematic implemented the world's largest Dematic Multishuttle system, which included a warehouse management system, material flow controls, and ergonomic workstations. The fully automated solution achieved a zero-defect picking rate with high throughput, handling 24,000 parts received and 11,000 parts shipped daily. For Zimmer, Dematic's solution significantly increased capacities and throughput, ensured reliable processes, and provided a model for the worldwide roll-out of logistics systems across the group.
