Urban Outfitters, a lifestyle specialty retailer, was facing capacity constraints at its distribution center due to several consecutive years of increased sales and profits. To accommodate this growth, they partnered with Dematic to upgrade their operations and expand the facility's capabilities.

Dematic implemented its RS 200 bidirectional sliding-shoe sorter and SortDirector warehouse control software. This solution allows the system to handle both receiving and shipping functions at a high rate, accurately processing up to 150 cartons per minute. The implementation was highly successful, with only one error in 100,000 cartons on launch day, and it provided the DC with real-time control and reporting. Dematic's system was installed without interrupting the facility's daily processing of 100,000 units.
