University of Nevada - Customer Case Study

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas required a high-density, secure, and preservation-focused storage solution for its most valuable library collections while also needing to significantly reduce the footprint and cost of a new building. They partnered with vendor Dematic to implement its Lied Automated Storage Retrieval (LASR) system.

Dematic provided a fully automated three-aisle storage and retrieval system controlled by its proprietary software, which integrates with the university's library system. The solution dramatically cut material retrieval times from 24 hours to under five minutes, reduced the required building cost for storage from a projected $13 million to $2.5 million, and ensures 99%+ inventory accuracy while providing a controlled environment for preservation. The system currently holds 600,000 volumes with the capacity for future expansion.
