University of British Columbia - Customer Case Study

The University of British Columbia (UBC) required a high-density storage solution for its library's vast collection to save space, improve retrieval times, and better preserve delicate materials. To meet this challenge, UBC partnered with vendor Dematic to implement their Automated Library System (ALS).

Dematic's solution was a four-aisle ALS with robotic retrieval machines, managed by their proprietary Dematic Management Software (DMS). The system integrated with the university's existing circulation software, enabling on-demand retrieval of materials in under five minutes. The ALS from Dematic resulted in space savings of over 85% compared to traditional shelving, which was reallocated to new student areas. It also provided 100% inventory accuracy, a controlled preservation environment, and significant construction and operational cost savings.
