A Dematic Case Study
Dansk Supermarked A/S, a major Danish retail group, faced the challenge of automating the intralogistics for its Bilka and Fotex non-food subsidiaries. They needed a highly flexible system to handle an extremely wide range of product shapes and sizes, reduce manual labor and high sickness rates among staff, and meet the distinct packing requirements of two different supermarket chains within a single facility. The company enlisted Dematic as the general contractor to design and implement a solution.
Dematic implemented a highly automated distribution center featuring two high-bay racking systems, a Multishuttle system for small parts, and 16 ergonomic Dematic ErgoPall palletizing stations, all controlled by the Dematic DC Director warehouse management system. The solution significantly reduced manual labor and physical strain on employees, leading to a major reduction in sick leave and picking costs. It also improved accuracy, minimized complaints, and achieved a high throughput of up to 270 completed pallets per hour, all while uniquely housing two subsidiaries under one roof.
