Transcontinental Printing, a company that provides outsourced printing services, sought to build a highly automated, greenfield production facility for the San Francisco Chronicle. Their challenge was to create a system that could significantly lower the cost of printing, assembling, and distributing newspapers by minimizing waste and maximizing accuracy. Dematic implemented an automated system featuring a high-bay ASRS for storage, specialized conveyors, and laser-guided vehicles. This resulted in a dramatic reduction in paper waste, increased accuracy in ad placement, and provided a robust, predictable automation platform designed for future growth.
