Sysco, a major North American food distribution company, was experiencing growth that its facilities could not accommodate. To increase efficiency for storing and picking slow-moving items, Sysco partnered with vendor Dematic to implement their automated "Compact Mini-Load" system into their expansion plans.

Dematic's solution utilized a unique dual extractor Storage and Retrieval Machine to automatically handle custom trays within a high-density rack structure. Directed by Sysco's WMS and controlled by Dematic's EMS, the system allowed for efficient order selection and real-time diagnostics. The implementation provided approximately 8,000 storage locations and 1,100 picking locations within a compact footprint, helping Sysco reduce operational costs and better service its customers.
