Super Streamlining High-Rate Throughput in Retail Apparel Distribution

The Children's Place, a specialty retailer of children's apparel, faced the challenge of supporting its rapid store expansion by building a new distribution center to increase capacity, reduce delivery times, and relieve its three other North American DCs. They engaged their longtime partner, Dematic, to manage the material handling for this greenfield project, which required a system engineered for high throughput from receiving through shipping.

Dematic implemented a comprehensive solution featuring automated conveyors, four high-speed RS Series sliding shoe sorters, a 2,640-location put-to-light order fulfillment system, and its SortDirector® warehouse control system. This resulted in a receiving capacity and throughput increase of almost 50%, the ability to ship over 2.5 million units per week on a single shift, and a 40% reduction in delivery transit times to stores, cutting it from over three days to less than two.
