Case Study: Netto achieves automated fruit and vegetable order picking with Dematic

A Dematic Case Study

Preview of the Netto Case Study

Specialised solution for automated order picking of fresh fruit & vegetables

Netto, a Danish discount supermarket chain, faced a significant challenge in its fresh goods warehouse, where strict worker safety regulations and the delicate nature of fruits and vegetables made high-volume, efficient order picking difficult. They sought a highly automated solution to increase throughput while minimizing manual handling. The vendor, Dematic, was engaged to design and implement an innovative automated system to meet these goals.

Dematic implemented a completely new system design featuring 15 robotic palletizing cells equipped with specialized grippers to handle delicate produce. This was integrated with a conveyor system and controlled by Dematic's Warehouse Control System (WCS). The results were highly successful, with approximately 75 SKUs processed automatically each day and order processing time reduced to under 30 minutes. The solution provided optimal pallet formation, created additional free space, and fully complied with local safety regulations, making it a unique and comprehensive automated fresh goods handling system.
