A Dematic Case Study
Sonoma State University sought a modern solution for storing and providing access to a large volume of library materials, aiming to replace the inefficiency of off-site storage with a system that could save significant space, reduce costs, and improve retrieval times. The university partnered with Dematic to implement its Automated Library Retrieval System (ALS) to address these challenges.
Dematic provided a fully automated three-aisle ALS with robotic retrieval machines controlled by its proprietary software. This system stores materials in thousands of high-capacity bins, drastically cutting the physical footprint needed for the collection. The solution allows the vast majority of requested materials to be retrieved in under five minutes with over 99% accuracy. The project was also highly cost-effective, with the ALS building costing one-seventh the price of a conventional structure. Dematic’s system provided Sonoma State University with a state-of-the-art, space-saving, and efficient solution for its library.
