Pick & Pass System Supports Retail Store Replenishment

A.C. Moore Arts & Crafts, Inc. was challenged with an inefficient manual picking process for its 45,000 SKUs, which required excessive labor for replenishment and lacked the capacity to support future growth. To address this, the company partnered with vendor Dematic to implement a new order fulfillment system at its New Jersey distribution center.

Dematic implemented a Pick & Pass system featuring four three-level pick towers. The solution utilized their pick-to-light technology for high-speed piece picking and was integrated with a conveyor network and a sliding shoe sorter. This new system from Dematic doubled average picking rates to 250 items per hour, reduced overall labor requirements by 25%, increased order accuracy, and provided the necessary capacity for SKU and volume growth.
