Ostermann, a furniture distributor in Germany, faced significant challenges with storage space and throughput at its distribution center as its retail business grew. Needing to increase capacity by over 50%, the company turned to vendor Dematic for a comprehensive automation solution involving an automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS).

Dematic implemented an AS/RS and goods-to-person workstations, all managed by its performance-optimizing Dematic iQ software. This automated solution provided a more compact footprint, significantly improved inventory accuracy, and minimized product damage. The system successfully handles approximately 12,000 annual incoming shipments and enables Ostermann to make around 500 daily deliveries with high efficiency.
