NEXT, a leading UK clothing and accessories retailer, faced a challenge in its South Elmsall distribution center where manual picking required operators to travel long distances, limiting productivity and making it difficult to meet seasonal peaks. To increase capacity and optimize operations, NEXT partnered with Dematic to implement a High Rate Put Station system.

Dematic's solution involved high-performance order picking stations where operators are directed by light displays to fulfill multiple orders simultaneously from a sequenced supply of products. This was enhanced by Dematic's DC Director Labour Management software to monitor and incentivize operator performance. The result was a 300% increase in picking productivity, with operators achieving pick rates of up to 1,000 items per hour while also substantially reducing errors.
