Kitting System Facilitates Expansion for Medical Device Manufacturer

Merit Medical Systems, a medical device manufacturer, faced inefficiencies in its assembly process due to its highly automated production. The manual gathering of components was time-consuming and created inventory control issues, hindering the company's ability to meet increased production rates. To address this, Merit Medical partnered with Dematic to develop an automated kitting solution.

Dematic implemented a system centered around its Multishuttle® sub-system and Warehouse Execution System (WES) software. This goods-to-person kitting solution automated the storage and delivery of components to workstations, which were controlled by the Dematic WES. The results were significant: kitting time was reduced from hours to minutes, labor for picking was cut by 50%, and inventory control and accuracy greatly improved. The Dematic solution also improved space utilization and provided flexibility for future growth.
