Hanes Brands faced the challenge of consolidating two massive distribution centers by recommissioning a dormant, highly automated facility originally built for Tultex. They required a partner to assess the complex existing systems, determine how to retrofit them for their unique business processes, and execute the project under an aggressive timeline. They selected vendor Dematic to provide the necessary expertise and a modernization solution.

Dematic performed an engineering audit and implemented a two-phased solution, which included significant electrical and mechanical upgrades and a new Material Handling Control System (MHCS) called EMS. The vendor successfully recommissioned the major pallet ASRS in under four months. The result was a fully integrated and highly reliable centralized distribution facility that reduced costs and order fulfillment times for Hanes Brands, with every subsystem performing more efficiently than when it was new.
