Goods-to-Person Fulfillment System Increases Productivity & Accuracy

Shimano, a world-leading manufacturer of cycling and fishing equipment, faced the challenge of unifying distribution for its two distinct businesses under one roof. The goal was to enhance customer service quality and achieve economies of scale to reduce costs. To address this, they partnered with vendor Dematic to implement a new distribution center solution.

Dematic implemented a goods-to-person order fulfillment system centered around their Multishuttle inventory storage sub-system. This space-efficient solution housed over 4,600 SKUs and delivered totes directly to operators at dual-purpose workstations, enabling between 200-350 picks per hour per station with extremely high accuracy. The Dematic iQ software dynamically managed inventory and optimized the entire order process. The results included improved inventory accuracy, efficient tote retrieval, and a flexible system that provides full operational redundancy and is designed for future expansion.
