General Motors - Customer Case Study

General Motors' Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant required a system to sequence painted car bodies for final assembly in exact build order, supporting its Order-to-Delivery process. To address this, the automotive manufacturer partnered with Dematic for an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS).

Dematic implemented a two-aisle, rack-supported sequencing facility featuring storage retrieval machines and a PLC-based control system. This solution provided General Motors with the ability to schedule deliveries to the assembly line in exact sequence. This led to significant reductions of in-plant materials at the assembly line, stable scheduling, and improved overall facility use and line balance.
