A Dematic Case Study
Ford Motor Company needed to manage the resequencing of painted car bodies for final assembly at its Oakville plant. The challenge was to ensure high-sequencing delivery to the trim line while reducing material inventory and stabilizing production scheduling. To address this, they partnered with vendor Dematic for an automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS).
Dematic implemented a rack-supported ASRS with four double-masted storage and retrieval machines and a fully automated conveyor system. This solution included a new facility and comprehensive controls designed and programmed by Dematic. The system achieved a minimum 98% in-sequence delivery to trim operations, significantly reduced inventory at the assembly line, and led to more stable scheduling and efficient facility use for Ford.
