Ford Motor Company - Customer Case Study

Ford Motor Company needed to increase the in-sequence delivery of painted car bodies from its paint operations to final trim assembly at its Atlanta facility. To address this challenge in material handling, they partnered with vendor Dematic for an automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) and integrated controls.

Dematic implemented a comprehensive solution that included a high-rise rack-supported storage structure serviced by four double-masted Storage and Retrieval Machines (SRMs). The system was complemented by a fully automated conveyor network and a sophisticated software control system designed and programmed by Dematic. This system achieved a minimum of 98% in-sequence delivery to trim, which significantly reduced material inventory at the assembly line, enabled stable scheduling, and improved overall facility use for Ford.
