Erhardt & Fischer, a German distributor of paper and IT products, faced a challenge following a merger: it needed a new distribution center with an intelligent and cost-effective order fulfillment solution. The company required a system with a rapid return on investment that would double productivity and significantly improve delivery quality while operating on a comparably low budget and a tight schedule. They enlisted Dematic to develop this solution.

Dematic implemented a voice-guided multi-order picking system powered by its DC Director Warehouse Management System (WMS) and Pick-by-Voice technology. This integrated solution included workstations, IT systems, and pick-carts, enabling each employee to process up to 16 orders simultaneously. The result was a doubling of throughput and a dramatic reduction in the picking error rate to less than 0.1%. The entire system was commissioned within six months and provided Erhardt & Fischer with a rapid return on investment and greatly increased flexibility.
