The Dayton Daily News required a state-of-the-art roll handling system for its new printing facility to showcase industry-leading technologies and efficiently manage its high-volume newsprint inventory. To address this, they partnered with Dematic for an automated solution.
Dematic implemented an automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) with specialized conveyors and equipment management software. The solution provided high-density roll storage with minimal floor space and enabled the unique capability to safely store and handle prepped, unwrapped rolls days in advance of production. This reduced manual handling and roll damage, allowed for more level staffing, and automated the tracking of roll status. Dematic’s system successfully increased newsprint utilization and operational efficiency for the Dayton Daily News.
