Automated Library Systems Helps College Manage Growth and Exceed Expectations

Grand Valley State University faced the challenge of managing significant growth and creating a comprehensive solution for its entire library system. The university needed to store a large and varied volume of items, provide quick access for patrons, and fully integrate a new Automated Library System (ALS) into its operations across all campuses for its new Mary Idema Pew Library.

Dematic implemented an ALS solution with twin cranes and multiple tray sizes, all managed by its software for efficient storage and retrieval. The system was fully integrated with the university's existing library network. The Dematic ALS resulted in items being retrieved in approximately two minutes, saved over 56,000 square feet of space for student use, and cost about one-third of conventional shelving. The solution also contributed to the library achieving LEED Platinum certification.
