Adidas Scores Goals and Protects Brand with Automated Distribution Center

Adidas, a global sportswear brand, faced challenges in distribution efficiency and consolidation after acquiring Reebok, needing to merge five brands' operations across Northern Europe. They partnered with the vendor Dematic to replace four conventional warehouses with a single automated facility to handle their rapid growth and complex inventory.

Dematic implemented an automated distribution center featuring automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) and a goods-to-person picking system with high-rate put stations. This solution increased pick rates to 500 units per hour, enabled the processing of over 40,000 items daily, and reduced the manual picking area by two-thirds. The investment significantly improved space efficiency, labor utilization, and order accuracy for adidas.
