Parmalat Launches Project Apollo for Greater Supply Chain Visibility

Parmalat, a global dairy and beverage division of the Lactalis Group, faced limited supply chain visibility and overly coarse monthly forecasting: production and replenishment were managed in Excel while forecasting ran on Demand Solutions DS1 Forecast Management. With highly perishable products and wide distribution, Parmalat needed more granular, timely planning and an integrated system to support better decisions — turning to Demand Solutions’ newer DSX platform as the enabler.

Under “Project Apollo” Parmalat restructured planning into category-level demand and supply synchronization teams and adopted Demand Solutions DSX for daily planning, breaking weekly targets into daily production buckets and creating a central “control tower” for planners. The Demand Solutions implementation delivered end-to-end visibility, reduced waste and dramatically improved service: customer service in the yoghurt division rose from as low as 40% to consistently exceed targets and approach 100% after the June 23, 2014 go-live.
