Orlando Health Saves $3 Million, Doubles Management Efficiency

Orlando Health, a large not-for-profit Florida healthcare network supplying eight hospitals and keeping just under 5,000 items in stock, faced inefficient, manual forecasting and inventory control that risked excess stock and poor visibility into demand. After forming a committee to improve distribution and warehousing, the organization selected a warehouse management system packaged with Demand Solutions Forecast Management to replace Excel-based min–max processes and better manage critical medical supplies.

Using Demand Solutions Forecast Management (implemented in 2010), Orlando Health cut inventory by $3 million in the first 90 days and identified $350,000 of nonmoving stock within six months; inventory turns rose from 5 to 10.9 and daily fill rate reached 99.96%. Demand Solutions now manages about 90% of items automatically, reduced forecast cycle time from 7–10 days to 2 days, and enabled the warehouse to expand SKUs from 2,300 to 4,800 while doubling planner productivity.
