Emergency Assistance Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit that administers disaster and hardship relief funds for organizations around the world. During the COVID-19 pandemic, demand surged dramatically, with applications running about 20x higher than normal and the team needing to process up to 20,000 grants a day, creating an urgent need to speed up payments. Deluxe Payment Exchange helped them scale their operations while continuing to support individuals in need.

Deluxe implemented Deluxe Payment Exchange eChecks so Emergency Assistance Foundation could send relief payments electronically to grantees’ mobile devices instead of relying on paper checks. With Deluxe, the organization was able to automate outgoing payments, quickly scale from a few hundred grants to 20,000 in a week, and provide financial assistance within a few days of launching an Immediate Response Program. In 2020 alone, Emergency Assistance Foundation awarded more than $100 million in grants, and Deluxe says the platform greatly improved processing speed and reduced payment issues.
