Case Study: American Electric Power achieves improved schedule quality and project management maturity with Deltek Acumen Fuse

A Deltek Case Study

Supporting Project Management Maturity with the Deltek Acumen Suite

American Electric Power (AEP), one of the largest U.S. electric utilities serving 5.4 million customers, faced difficulty managing generation-related projects ranging from $10M to over $1B because project data lived in disparate systems. The Project Controls & Construction team struggled to get timely, accurate schedule information—relying on more than 15 filters, manual integration for weekly reviews, and lacking a clear, consistent view of schedule quality for supervisors and project management.

AEP implemented Deltek Acumen Fuse, creating standardized processes using the S2 Diagnostics, customized metrics, and adjusted P6 archiving to leverage Fuse’s forensics and change-tracking. The team now uses a shared workbook across PC&C to enforce AEP standards, consistently check schedule quality, and adapt metrics as processes evolve; they plan to expand with Acumen Risk, integrate with their EVMS, and train stakeholders on the new workflows.
