International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) is a Washington, DC–based international nonprofit that designs programs to strengthen education, independent media and communities worldwide. Facing an aging Microsoft Solomon accounting system, IREX struggled with cumbersome, nonintuitive processes, manual calculations of indirects, steep training curves, and difficulty meeting strict audit requirements—risks for an organization that relies partly on government funding.

IREX implemented Deltek Costpoint (with Deltek Time) over a six‑month rollout to gain project‑based accounting, automated controls and centralized reporting. The change delivered two consecutive clean Financial and A‑133 audits—the first time in 40 years—qualified IREX as a low‑risk auditee, cut month‑end close from a day to about two hours, supported 40% business growth without adding accounting headcount, and eliminated many manual processes.
