A Deltek Case Study
Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI), the nonprofit applied research arm of Georgia Tech supporting roughly $130M in annual research and 1,200 staff, struggled with a legacy IBM mainframe accounting system from 1989. The COBOL‑based system produced only monthly, often stale reports, required paper timesheets for all employees, created data‑integrity problems and time‑consuming manual corrections, and made timely project and budget oversight difficult.
GTRI implemented the Deltek Enterprise suite (Deltek Costpoint, Enterprise Planner and Deltek Time Collection) and integrated it with PeopleSoft, automating timesheets, billing and accounting processes. The change delivered real‑time financial and project data enterprise‑wide, eliminated about $75K/year in maintenance, automated more than 75% of bills, sped month‑end close to hours, improved accuracy and controls, and made reports and timesheet entry accessible online.
