A Deltek Case Study
General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS), a leading global producer of Light Armored Vehicles, faced difficulty managing large defense contracts with inadequate low-end scheduling tools and a fragile homegrown cost-reporting database. They needed a resource-loaded scheduling and pricing solution that could integrate schedule, budget and actuals to support Earned Value Management and comply with government requirements.
GDLS implemented Open Plan for scheduling and Deltek cobra for pricing and cost-performance reporting, creating a direct data link and a Basis of estimate input (BiD) workflow to load labor, travel and cost estimates. The integrated system standardized reporting, improved confidence in earned‑value calculations, enabled routine BCWS/BCWP/ACWP comparisons and program-level status reports, and put GDLS on a path toward full cost/schedule integration and broader project-management automation.
