Case Study: Czech Technical University achieves hands-on project planning and resource management training with Deltek People Planner

Deltek People Planner implemented in classrooms at the Technical University of Prague

Czech Technical University’s Faculty of Civil Engineering implemented Deltek People Planner in its Project Management master’s “Planning and Controlling” course to give about 40 students an alternative to the previously used MS Project. The challenge was to introduce a practical, capacity-planning tool into the curriculum so students could learn modern resource allocation and project-control methods in a classroom setting.

After a fall 2011 rollout, students used People Planner in lectures and team assignments as virtual construction firms—creating WBS structures, schedules, budgets, assigning and balancing resources, and resolving conflicts with intuitive drag-and-drop rescheduling. Students quickly mastered the software and reported it was easy to use; based on these results the department is considering wider adoption in other courses and for internal project management.
