Deltek Enterprise™ Suite brings project accounting philosophy to multi-million dollar nonprofit organization

The Asia Foundation is a San Francisco–based nonprofit working across the Asia-Pacific with more than 450 staff to support governance, economic development, women’s participation and international relations. As its work shifted from primarily grant-making to operations and multi-million-dollar projects, the Foundation outgrew its DOS-based Fundware system: it could not track full project costs, required extensive Excel workarounds, and took about four days to close each month, delaying critical financial information.

The Foundation evaluated several solutions and implemented Deltek Enterprise (including Deltek Costpoint), going live one year after purchase. The new system now manages roughly 100 awards, handles complex donor reporting, and eliminated manual spreadsheets; month-end close time dropped to about 1.5 days with a single staff member. Reporting became more accurate and timely, and the organization experienced a cultural shift toward standardized, project-based management and greater trust in its financial data.
