Exelon, the largest electric utility in the United States, faced a significant challenge in delivering consistent and safe workforce safety training to its geographically dispersed crew members. Scheduling in-person training around inclement weather across the eastern U.S. was extremely difficult. To address this, Exelon partnered with vendor Deloitte Digital and its Unlimited Reality practice to develop a virtual reality (VR) training solution.

Deloitte Digital designed a realistic VR experience that immerses employees in a virtual substation environment, allowing them to safely practice procedures and build crucial muscle memory without any physical risk. This solution provides a more efficient and effective training method than traditional manuals or in-person sessions, enabling new workers to get up to speed faster by repeating actions multiple times in minutes. The VR training helps Exelon preserve critical safety knowledge and ensures employees are better prepared for high-pressure field situations.
