A DELMIAworks Case Study
Mar-Bal, Inc., a 350-employee, four‑facility manufacturer of thermoset composite products, faced rising costs and operational bottlenecks from an outdated AS/400 ERP. The legacy system lacked native EDI, barcode-based inventory tracking, real-time production monitoring and robust reporting, forcing manual data entry, monthly plant shutdowns for physical inventory, long month‑end closes and nearly 5,000 lost machine hours of downtime.
Mar-Bal implemented EnterpriseIQ (IQMS) with native EDI, Warehouse Management (barcode scanning), RealTime production monitoring, VMI and upgraded reporting. The system automated inbound/outbound EDI, eliminated monthly physical inventories, enabled remote visibility for sales and cut month‑end close from up to 12 days to four. The changes recovered about 5,000 machine hours and delivered roughly $270,000 in annual savings (including $40K from inbound EDI, $20K from outbound EDI, $83K from eliminating monthly inventories, $62K from RealTime gains and other efficiencies), while improving customer service and production visibility.
