Victoria University chooses Thycotic to secure privileged access management foundation and ensure ease of adoption

Victoria University (Melbourne), which educates more than 42,800 students, faced inconsistent, manual privileged-account management across its IT estate, with widespread use of shared/default credentials and little oversight or audit control. ITS leadership identified governance, visibility and change-management hurdles as key risks and needed a practical, fit-for-purpose Privileged Access Management (PAM) solution that IT staff would adopt.

VU selected Thycotic Secret Server for its ease of deployment and low-cost model, rolling out a phased pilot that started with a few critical secrets and expanded to a premium license covering nearly 95% of core systems. The implementation delivered fast adoption—becoming business-as-usual for admins—reduced risk, improved operational efficiency, and set the stage to extend Secret Server into HR/finance, access governance, session recording and SIEM integration.
