Privileged Password Management does double duty as proactive security defense at Saab

Saab Defense and Security USA LLC, led by VP/CIO Per Hammarin and a 10‑member IT team, faced a fragmented IT environment as five departments were consolidated into a single organization supporting a parent company of 300+ users worldwide (with headquarters in Sweden about 30× larger). They needed to replace a non‑scalable, ad‑hoc approach to privileged credentials with a simple, web‑based, device‑agnostic solution that would both centralize access and provide proactive defenses against internal misuse and external compromise (average intrusion with compromised credentials can go undetected for about 180 days).

In 2010 Saab deployed Thycotic Secret Server Enterprise Plus, gaining centralized privileged password management, automated rotation and “fail‑safe” access, plus Heartbeat checks that validate credentials and flag out‑of‑band changes. The solution scaled to the global environment, gave Hammarin visibility into who accessed which secrets to spot anomalies, and saved administrator time while improving security posture; ongoing collaboration with Thycotic has also produced product enhancements now used across Secret Server customers.
