Innovative USC Computing Lab embraces BYOD, SSO and saves thousands of dollars in the process

The University of Southern California’s Viterbi School faced limited access to Mac-based instructional software for some 5,300 engineering students: a crowded, time-restricted lab forced many students to buy costly software for personal machines. USC needed anywhere/anytime Mac access, unified group security and centralized identity management tied to Windows Active Directory, without building a costly new lab.

USC deployed Centrify with Aqua Connect and custom PowerShell tooling to join Macs to AD, enable SSO, provide remote and on-site access, roaming profiles and AD-based access control. The virtualized lab eliminated the need for new workstations, delivered significant cost savings (including an estimated $60K+ value per classroom), increased BYOD adoption, reduced support overhead and let instructors teach Mac-based classes anywhere.
