Case Study: State of Michigan achieves simplified audits and stronger compliance with Delinea Zero Trust Privilege Services

A Delinea Case Study

Helping the state of Michigan simplify audits, strengthen compliance posture and reduce risk of a breach

The Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB), which manages IT for 19 state agencies, faced growing security and compliance challenges as its heterogeneous server environment scaled rapidly. A homegrown LDAP/sudo approach left too many users with excessive privileges, created inconsistent local sudoers files across hundreds to thousands of Linux systems, and made it difficult to prove compliance with CJIS, CMS, HIPAA and PCI requirements.

DTMB implemented Delinea Zero Trust Privilege Services to centralize privileged identity management across Windows and Linux, extend Active Directory policies to Linux, migrate local sudoers files, and enforce time‑limited privilege elevation with full auditing and session recording. The result: streamlined provisioning/deprovisioning, simplified audits and regulatory compliance, faster incident investigations, reduced breach risk, and operational efficiencies that even enabled expanded Medicaid processing collaboration with other states.
