Scottish Parliament publishes 34 Calls for Views with Delib

The Scottish Parliament, established in 1999, needed to effectively engage citizens and organizations in its policy-making process and hold the government accountable. To achieve this, it sought a transparent way to conduct its Calls for Views, which are essential for its committee-based legislature to gather evidence and scrutinize legislation. The Parliament adopted Citizen Space from vendor Delib to meet this challenge.

Delib's Citizen Space solution enabled the Scottish Parliament to publish its Calls for Views digitally, with 34 conducted in just over a year. The platform was key for collecting, analyzing, and reporting on submitted views and accepted responses in any language, including Gaelic and Scots. This supported impactful outcomes, such as the Call for Views on the Animals and Wildlife Act that led to updated legislation with tougher penalties for animal welfare crimes.
