Mitchell Shire Council gathers 200+ budget responses with Delib

Mitchell Shire Council, a local government in Victoria, Australia, faced the challenge of strategically allocating its limited Capital Works budget to accommodate its rapidly growing population of 55,000. The council needed to understand citizen priorities for infrastructure and services to ensure its spending aligned with community expectations. To address this, they turned to vendor Delib and used their Budget Simulator product.

Delib's Budget Simulator allowed residents to adjust funding sliders for different service areas, providing real-time information on the consequences of each allocation. This helped citizens understand the necessary trade-offs in budgeting. The solution gathered feedback from over 200 residents, which directly informed the council's draft budget and Strategic Resource Plan. The engagement was so successful for Delib that Mitchell Shire Council decided to run the simulator again for the next budget cycle.
