De Lijn A Smarter Cost Model For Smarter Mobility

De Lijn, the Flemish public transportation company, needed a new way to model costs after Flanders shifted from a “basic mobility” policy to “basic accessibility” and reorganized its transport network into 15 regions. Working with delaware BeLux, the finance team wanted more transparency into expenses across connections and the ability to simulate the budget impact of adding or removing services.

delaware BeLux redesigned the SAP CO cost model and prepared key cost drivers such as bus type and timeslot, then linked them to tools already familiar to De Lijn, including TM1 and the Hastus planning tool. The new driver-based approach gave De Lijn better insight, improved scenario simulation for budgeting, and helped the company work more proactively to offer better services and stay relevant.
