Transport Infrastructure Ireland manages 5,300 km of roads with Deighton Associates

Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) faced the challenge of managing a diverse national road network of over 5,300 kilometers, which consisted of varied legacy roads with significantly different deterioration and failure modes. To secure the provision of a safe and efficient network, TII partnered with vendor Deighton Associates to implement a solution using their dTIMS pavement management system.

Deighton Associates' solution involved defining five distinct subnetworks within dTIMS, grouping similar road sections to enable tailored service levels. This "fit for purpose" approach recognized the constraints of each subnetwork and led to a new, more effective system for maintenance and repair scheme selection. The results achieved were a strategic framework that aligns closely with expert engineering judgement at the local level.
