The City of Edina needed a more efficient method for assessing its sidewalks and curb ramps, as its traditional manual inspection process was slow and labor-intensive. To address this challenge, the city partnered with vendor DeepWalk to pilot its iPhone LiDAR inspection software for gathering detailed accessibility data.

DeepWalk implemented its mobile and web applications, enabling city staff to quickly scan 5 miles of sidewalk. The solution provided automated measurements and a living dataset of conditions. The results were a comprehensive assessment of 140 curb ramps and a new ability to easily identify and prioritize areas in need of improvement for more informed budgeting and workflow planning.
