National Acoustics Laboratories boosts SPD course completion to 100% with Deepend

National Acoustics Laboratories (NAL), a government-funded hearing health research body, faced a challenge with low engagement for their effective but laborious software designed to remediate Spatial Processing Disorder (SPD) in children. The requirement for children to attend a clinic to use the software resulted in many failing to complete the necessary 10-week course. To address this, they partnered with vendor Deepend to develop a more engaging solution.

Deepend created the Soundstorm application, an auditory training game that gamified NAL's certified remediation algorithm with rich narratives, hand-crafted characters, and a multi-layered reward system. The solution delivered a 70% increase in patients undertaking the course and achieved a 100% remediation success rate for children who completed it. The app also allowed for remote progress tracking by audiologists. The project was highly awarded, winning a Webby Award among other accolades.
