CHG Healthcare Services wanted to move beyond average growth, sales, and turnover as it aimed to become the largest and best healthcare staffing company in the country. In 2002, its moderately engaged culture and 48 percent turnover rate made it difficult to hire, train, and retain employees fast enough to support growth.
CHG partnered with DecisionWise to launch an annual employee engagement survey and use employee feedback to guide changes. The company also rolled out leadership competencies, 360-degree feedback, coaching, focus groups, leadership training, and performance appraisals. With DecisionWise, CHG built a culture of feedback, pushed engagement above 90 percent, reached as high as No. 3 on Fortune’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” list, kept turnover below the industry average, and grew revenue and profits during the 2008–2011 recession.
