Newcrest Mining Limited, one of the world’s top-five gold producers, needed to develop 190 middle managers so they could communicate more effectively with staff, peers and stakeholders. Many of these managers came from senior engineering and geology roles, and the learning content had to work for a culturally diverse workforce across locations including Fiji, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Ivory Coast. DeakinCo. was engaged to help deliver the management development program.

DeakinCo. helped design a manager course using Newcrest Mining case studies to keep the learning practical and relevant, covering leadership, the global business context, the manager’s role, a Manager’s Toolkit, and organisation development. The program was an immediate success, leading to more courageous conversations, better sharing of information and know-how, improved understanding across divisions, and greater use of best practices for efficiency.
