Leighton Offshore, a global engineering, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning and life-of-field contractor, needed a way to grow its own talent as competition for young construction professionals intensified. Instead of relying solely on an increasingly limited external talent pool, the company sought a scalable way to develop “Leighton-ready” planners, engineers, quantity surveyors and other specialists. DeakinCo. partnered with Leighton Offshore to support this ambition through a Professional Trainee Program.

DeakinCo. designed, developed, promoted and managed the program with Deakin University and universities in India, delivering post-graduate construction management education through Technical Competency Modules that earned credit toward a Graduate Certificate in Construction Management. The 18-month blended program combined classroom and workplace learning, and participants gained guaranteed employment on successful completion. The result was strong student interest, a clear academic pathway to further qualifications, and a powerful employer-branding and retention strategy for Leighton Offshore.
